When I first started blogging and sharing outfit photos, posing was hands-down one of the trickiest parts. I would worry about looking silly or being judged, and honestly, it made me default to the same safe pose over and over again. If you’ve ever felt that way, you’re definitely not alone! But here’s the truth: practice really does make perfect. After countless shoots, I’ve learned that posing is simply another skill—one that anyone can master with a little confidence and creativity.

1. The Triangle Rule

If you’ve ever wondered why some photos look more dynamic than others, it often comes down to shape and movement. Enter: the triangle rule. Instead of standing stiff with arms glued to your sides, think about creating invisible triangles with your body.

For example, rest a hand on your hip so there’s a triangular gap between your arm and waist. Or, crouch down with one leg bent and the other extended to form another triangle. These shapes break up the frame, making the photo feel more intentional and interesting. It’s such a simple trick, but it changes everything!


2. Keep Your Hands Busy

One of the biggest posing dilemmas? Not knowing what to do with your hands. Leaving them hanging awkwardly can make even the best outfit look less polished. Instead, give them something to do:

  • Hold onto a coffee cup, bag, or sunglasses.
  • Slip them casually into your pockets.
  • Play with your hair or adjust your jacket lapels.
